According to Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Bureau of Public Safety (MDPS), troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) responded to a vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 51 near State Park Road earlier that morning. When officers arrived, they discovered Brooks deceased in the driver’s seat of her vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds. Another passenger in the vehicle was unharmed, according to authorities.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) have taken over the case, and the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remain under active investigation. Officials have not released further details, citing the ongoing nature of the inquiry.
